Description

To Life! Lechaim!
A thousand years of presence. Of glory and exile, tolerance and exclusion, wealth and poverty. The history of London’s Jewish community is one of the most moving there is — and yet it remains largely unknown.

From the City to the East End, in the streets of Spitalfields and Shoreditch, this tour follows in the footsteps of a community that shaped London as much as London shaped it. Merchants, refugees, craftsmen, navigators and sportsmen — the faces of a people whose imprint is etched into the stones, synagogues and markets of the British capital.

A walk that is both intimate and universal, celebrating London’s cultural diversity and paying tribute to an extraordinary heritage.

Highlights

A millennium of history
From the expulsion of 1290 to the return under Cromwell, from the pogroms of the East to the Kindertransport — a presence marked by drama and resilience.
🏠
Spitalfields and the East End
Synagogues, grocers, shops and Hebrew inscriptions hidden in the bricks — the neighbourhood retains the faint traces of a community in perpetual evolution.
The Kindertransport
In 1938 and 1939, 10,000 Jewish children fleeing the Nazis arrived in London. A story of courage and humanity that the city’s monuments still honour.
🏭
A lasting imprint on London
Commerce, religion, the arts, popular culture — London’s Jewish heritage is everywhere, often difficult to spot, but always essential.
